Spoiling the Good Name

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. Proverb 22:1

When we use that term, ”a good name,” we are thinking of a good reputation. Just as when you think of someone’s name, and you have a positive or negative reaction. The same thing happens when someone thinks of your name their thoughts are either positive or negative about you and your family.

Ecclesiastes 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.Sometimes a person’s name can be ruined by influential enemies, but most of the time it is ruined by his conduct and lack of integrity.

People can not only spoil their family name or father’s name, but they can also bring reproach on the name of Christ.

Psalm 1:1 Gives us some insight on how to avoid this trap.

David says, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly” We are not to take counsel or advice from the ungodly. Who are you letting advise you and your actions? Everything we allow in our minds through our eyes and ears is giving us counsel. He goes on to say, “nor standeth in the way of sinners.” Do you try to fit in with the way of the world? James tell us in James 4:4 that friendship with the world is enmity with God. Are you standing in the way of the sinner? Then, David says, ” nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” This one probably gets more Christians than the other two because it is so subtle. Do you complain? Do you grumble? Do you murmur? How much does it take to get you to blow your top? Do you realize that you are missing out on a promise that God gave us. He said if we would follow this patter set forth in Psalm 1:1 that whatsoever we doeth we would prosper. Why would we want to miss out on that blessing over something trivial? Why would we want to spoil our good name? And more importantly, why would we want to bring reproach on the name of Christ?

Rescue the Perishing

Just wanted to share a verse from one of my favorite hymns. It was written by Fanny J. Crosby, and for a woman that was blind, I believe sometimes she had a greater vision than many of us that can see.

Rescue the perishing
Care for the dying
Snatch them in pity
From sin and the grave
Weep o’er the erring one
Lift up the fallen
Tell them of Jesus
The mighty to save

Rescue the perishing
Care for the dying
Jesus is merciful
Jesus will save

May we apply the truths of this verse to our lives and our daily walk reflect an attitude of a Christian World Vision.

Preachers Must Preach

Preachers, if you have been called to be a preacher, then you must preach! If you know that you have been called by God to preach his word, then fulfill your calling by calling people to obedience of God’s Word. Call sinners to repentance and Christians to conform to the image of Christ. We are not to suggest it. We are not to advise it. We are to: PREACH IT!

Luther puts it this way:

The Gospel ministry should spare no one, no matter how high the position may be which he occupies, but should rebuke wrong in everybody. This is why ministers and preachers exist. A very heavy burden is placed on them. They should so conduct their office that they stand ready to answer for it and give an account of it on Judgement Day. If they do not speak to you and rebuke in you what their office requires them to speak and to rebuke, God will require your blood from their hand. Tell me, why should we preachers burden ourselves still more by preaching to you as you desire? It is not our word. Nor do we live for your sake, as though you had ordered us, and we had to preach what you like. Preachers can, will, and should not do this. Therefore he who will not listen is free in God’s name to walk out through the church door and let our Lord God keep His ministry unhindered.

Putting Things Into Focus

I came across this video and I wanted to share it with you. I hope it will help to establish a world vision to take the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the Earth. I have heard it said before and it is worth repeating, “Except for one minor exception, the entire world population is made up of other people.
